Department of Radiation Oncology
At the department of Radiation Oncology, patients are treated with ionizing radiation. The majority of them are cancer patients. The department has advanced equipment for the localization op the tumor, treatment planning, simulation, treatment delivery and verification. There is ample experience with the use of newer techniques, such as IMRT and intra- and extracranial stereotactic radiotherapy. The most recent technique is 4D-radiotherapy, using a 16 slice 4D-CT-scanner and respiratory gated radiotherapy.
The scientific research of the department is concentrated on tumors of the brain, head and neck, lung and upper abdomen. Research activitities (medical, physical and radiobiological) also include studies on the use of PET-scan in radiotherapy and on combined modality treatments.
